It is said that that belonging to a club can be one of the most rewarding experiences. Members of varied interests and at different stages of their lives find use of The PYC's resources in different ways.
Some enjoy socializing and attending fun events from happy hours to gourmet dining events. Others use the clubhouse for their recreational needs, from hosting events to entertaining friends. Many members love the membership benefit of access to the river for boating, kayaking and more.
The PYC offers many river front social gatherings throughout the calendar year. During the summer we offer informal themed gatherings which we refer to as "Frugal Fridays". The photos were taken from our "Texas Hoedown".
The PYC is fortunate to be located at one of the more scenic sections of the river which boasts of views facing Esopus Island and Catskill Mountains. The Club is a great place to invite friends for a evening of relaxation on our wraparound porch, barbequing, or one of our several social events. The bar is always available.
The PYC is one of the most affordable clubs in the area because members pitch in and keep costs down by doing a lot of the work themselves. We offer the cheapest rates for our type of facility along with what we think are one of the best views and locations on the river. Ask to see our facility, memberships are available.
Sailing and More
If you are a fan of casual racing, regattas, and more, the PYC offers regattas every season. Many boaters invite non-boat owning members to crew races, it's a great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon.
Dining and Banquets
The PYC hosts many family and social events throughout the year. Any season is beautiful for a gathering near the river. PYC is especially popular when it is decorated for the Holidays! From small intimate dinner parties to class reunions, small weddings, receptions or company Christmas parties, everyone enjoys the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club facilities.
Kayakers are Welcome
The PYC provides one of the most interesting places to launch from on the river. Easily paddle over to (or around) Esopus Island or to Vanderbuilt Mansion. Take a trip along the ledges of Norrie, to Mills Mansion, or around the Esopus lighthouse. Take a runabout over to Esopus Island for a campfire or go explore black creek and do some hiking. Take out a day sailor for some afternoon tacking on the low traffic side of the Island.
Joining the PYC or taking boating/sailing classes is a great way to get into boating. If you have interest in taking classes, let us know via contacting the PYC on our contact page. If you are interested in learning more about boating, or joining a group of like minded individuals, the USPS may be the right fit for you. See the The Mid-Hudson Power Squadron website online http://www.midhudsonpowersquadron.org/ and on Facebook (under Mid-Hudson Power Squadrons).
The Hudson Valley is one of the most visited places in America, it is an added bonus the PYC shares so many historic sites, parks, farms, and activities within close driving range. Photo by Carolyn Odell Photography.
Points North and South
The PYC is a good launching point to either head North through the Lochs to Vermont or to head south to Long Island Sound and points beyond. We have numerous members who travel in both directions every year.
